Advocate burnout calculator
This calculator compares the reference requests you receive each quarter with the number your advocates can take at a limit you set. You get the average load per advocate, total capacity, utilization and the number of advocates you need. Paste request counts per advocate to see who is over your limit.

Advocates over your limit
How this was calculated
The formulas:
- Average load = requests ÷ active advocates.
- Capacity = active advocates × maximum requests per advocate.
- Utilization = requests ÷ capacity × 100.
- Advocates needed = requests ÷ maximum requests per advocate, rounded up.
- Over limit (pasted list) = advocates whose count is greater than your maximum.
The status compares your requests with your own capacity: under capacity when requests are below it, at capacity when they are equal, over capacity when they are above it.
With your numbers:

Results depend entirely on the numbers you enter. This is a planning estimate, not a forecast.
Frequently asked questions
What is advocate burnout?
Advocate burnout is what happens when the same customers are asked for reference calls, quotes or other favors so often that they slow down, stop replying or leave the program. It usually shows up first in your most willing advocates.
How many reference requests per advocate is too many?
There is no universal number. It depends on the advocate, the kind of request and what they agreed to. The calculator starts at 2 per quarter as a placeholder labeled your estimate. Replace it with the limit your advocates have told you they are comfortable with.
How is utilization calculated?
Capacity is your active advocates multiplied by your maximum requests per advocate. Utilization is your requests per quarter divided by that capacity, shown as a percentage. Over 100 percent means you receive more requests than your advocates can take at your limit.
Why paste request counts per advocate?
An average can hide uneven load. A program can be under capacity overall while a few advocates take most of the calls. Pasting counts per advocate lists everyone who is above your limit.
What format does the pasted list need?
One advocate per line, with the name first and the request count last, separated by a comma, a tab or a semicolon. Blank lines are ignored and lines without a count are skipped.
Is the pasted list stored or shared?
No. The list stays in your browser and is not added to the page address. Only the three number fields are kept in the address so you can share the result.
